I miss this little corner of the Starmade Universe very much, but I have faith that the admins are taking their time to do it justice. That having been said, it's been down for nearly a month, and it's a kick in the pants. Get it in gear, gents! This server has dropped like a sinking stone in the SM server ratings.
From what I understand, when this server comes back up, it will have a completely refitted config, allowing for a level of socioeconomic and geopolitical complexity rarely seen in video gaming role-playing, much less on your average Starmade server. I'm need EE back in my life.
This server is no more. Their clients, both those who donated and free players, were given no warning. They simply shut it down.
I'd give a wide berth to any future server run or administrated by any who held those positions prior. They have proven themselves untrustworthy and devoid of even the smallest sense of integrity.
If you had paid any attention in the past 2 months or actually played on the server, they gave more than a months notice that the server would be going down in the month of August. The server is still alive, it's just being transferred owners. Don't post shit you don't know anything about.
"If you had paid any attention in the past 2 months"
It was not then, nor is it now, posted on their website or mentioned anywhere in their official forums. According to the admins that are posting on Starmade's official forum, they too were caught by surprise. It must have been only you that was privy to this information.
"or actually played on the server"
I play, or played I should say, solely on E.E. and quite often at that.
"The server is still alive, it's just being transferred owners."
The server is a rental and all of our work is now gone.
"Don't post shit you don't know anything about."
Advice you'd be wise to turn upon yourself, sport.
No no no no no no. You have no idea what you're talking about. Again, had you actually played in the past 2 months, you would have seen any of the admins that had come online talk about it. I've been online the past few months and have not seen you on at all. If you actually looked at the website a little more than just typing it into the box, you could see that it would say "Server is being transfered to NuclearDoughnut! Donations are no longer accepted". I've talked to Doughnut myself and he never said that it would all be gone. You're pulling the idea of it being a rental server out of your ass. Doughnut said he was going to have the server hosted on a rack now.
It is almost as if I had posted this and let many people know before I shut the server down.
For instance: https://web.archive.org/web/20150814071702/http://elwyneternity.com/donate.html
I know that it was up there a few weeks before the server went down. On 8/6/15. I also know that I told every large faction I had contact info for about this 2 months ahead of time.
Wow! Haha I was wondering why it was down for a while. I've been really out of the loop since my internet went completely down for a month or so. Well, I shall be waiting eagerly for when it comes back up. Hopefully all the active members will still be around. This is a real shocker but still, guess my time in Starmade is going to be postponed yet again. Nonetheless, contact information shall be passed to those whom I would like to keep in contact with. Hopefully this comes back up sooner rather than later.
" Again, had you actually played in the past 2 months, you would have seen any of the admins that had come online talk about it. I've been online the past few months and have not seen you on at all."
I played quite actively up to the server take down. Whether or not you "noticed me" is irrelevant. My HB is two galaxies away from spawn and I rarely speak in chat. I didn't notice YOU either. Does that mean you did not play?
"If you actually looked at the website a little more than just typing it into the box, you could see that it would say "Server is being transfered to NuclearDoughnut! Donations are no longer accepted". "
Great. So the only place it's mentioned is in the "Donate" link. You don't see the issue with that, eh? Because we all visit the "Donate" part of a website regularly...especially after we've already donated...it has so much content to offer! (Who the heck would put something as important as a server shutdown on the official website forums! Or the EE listing in the Starmade forums! Or on the front page of the website! The greeting message on the server! Silly ideas, all of them!)
"You're pulling the idea of it being a rental server out of your ass. Doughnut said he was going to have the server hosted on a rack now."
I'm pulling it right from the mouth of EE admins who posted it on the official Starmade forums under the EE listing under the "server" subcategory. That likely is a bit different from "my arse."
Pointless defense of provably poor decision making is likely to make you appear the fool. Not I. Try disputing the points I have made instead of resorting to baseless insults, speculation, and blind accusations.
"It is almost as if I had posted this and let many people know before I shut the server down.
For instance: https://web.archive.org/web/20150814071702/http://elwyneternity.com/donate.html"
Another poster has mentioned this also, and I am forced to ask again: Do you really think the appropriate single place to have found this information was on the "donate" page only? Do you believe many people visit this area, especially after having already donated? This is a silly defense and I believe you know it.
" I also know that I told every large faction I had contact info for about this 2 months ahead of time."
And you believe the vast majority of the Starmade population resides solely in large factions? That would be willful blindness at best. Pulling up a list of factions and their members on any server would disprove this immediately. There were a multitude of methods that could have been employed to ensure all players were aware, yet none were undertaken. Simply adding it to the welcome message that is displayed upon logon would have been adequate, if not a panacea.
"put something as important as a server shutdown on the official website forums! Or the EE listing in the Starmade forums! Or on the front page of the website! The greeting message on the server! "
I can't fathom why this was not done. Fair enough, putting the notice of closure on the donate page was responsible (it would be unconscionable to accept donations with an impending closure), but it wouldn't have taken much effort to engage and inform the existing players also.
The only reasons I can think up are lack of care, incompetence, malice, or the attempt to preserve player numbers as much as possible to retain a perceived value, if there was a monetary transaction involved in the change of ownership.
Whatever the reason, I think this was handled badly.
The admins are pretty cool on this server. Also, if you talk to them about their rules, they are pretty fair. If you look at some of the other starmade servers, you will see that they have limits on ship size or number of turrets etc... They don't do that here. As long as you are not doing anything that really lags the server or jeapordizes its function they don't care.
This means you can actually build what you want on here as long as it's not actually causing problems.
Unlike the Shattered Skies server I haven't witnessed any admin abuse or admins that act like 10 year olds mad with power on this server. The admins are pretty nice, and are responsive when messaged with questions on TS3
I spoke with the owner of the server yesterday. He wants to keep this server running and make it the best starmade server on this website. He wants to do an upgrade on it soon, and is spending hundred out of pocket to keep it running.
I would definitely support this server by donating if you can, and I recommend it to anyone that likes to play Starmade.
Server crashing right now at least once per hour sometimes twice.. Ends Up Losing days of work including main ship and extensive inventory due to death in the middle of a group of pirates after reconnecting from one of these consistent server crashes. Needless to say this is a good server... The constant crashing has to be fixed though. Also another issue is some of my fellow gamers cannot connect to this server in particular.. due to ghost or something like that.
Has anyone else noticed that the "customer service" on this website is shit? The people are so snotty and they should really learn to respect their customers. I know that this has nothing to do with this server but I wanted to know if I was the only one with this kind of experience with the awful staff from this website.
I'd love to hear about the instances you are speaking of. We do not have "customers", we have people who donate to support the community and allow it to continue running. I think anyone that has ever emailed/pm'd me about an issue has always been helped to the greatest extent of my abilities. If you have any issues with the server, please take them to me.
@gravypod : He is talking about StarMade-Servers.com
@EonGames : I'm curious about that also. Your account was created on April 7th and you have never contacted us for any support.
Also we have no "customers"!!! This website is free, and so we are not bound to any need of respect toward anyone.
When someone contact us for something stupid or that don't concern us, we do not embarass ourself to say what we think.
Just wanted to take some time to say that the server is great and I'm having a good time. So far though I'm running into a small issue. Within the times I've been playing the server seems to be crashing more frequently by the day, is everything alright?
This server is PAY TO WIN and the staff denies it.
Donors can jump to any cord in the universe, in a core this can led to 99999999^3 in a 30 minute charge time.
This means a new player can join the server, spend a week or more jumping non-stop to found an out-of-reach home base and that a bully donor can be there within a half hour to set up shop right next-door and be a constant nuisance; to me and my guys, this is pay to win and unfortunately broken.
I am not really sure where you got those numbers but they are all wrong.
Currently, there is a bug in the plugin but soon it will be fixed.
When it is, here are the real figures:
distance = 99999999^3
The formula we use for calculating the time is:
f(distance) = (distance / sqrt(distance) * 4
f(distance) returns a time in seconds.
f(99999999^3) = 3.9999999e+12 seconds
To save you the time of converting that into an understandable time, it would take around 2505 centuries.
(To be as exact as possible to deal with these figures, 2505.216794563577 is the time, in centuries, as from the Google calculator)
PS: This is only for the warm-up time! Not the cool-down time!
Personally, I am very offended that you went onto the comments section of this server list to slander me rather than consult me on the issues you have. I have worked with many people to find solutions to these kinds of problems. Originally, the TP system I had setup did not restrict range in any way and had no cool-down/warm-up. It was not until a player contacted me, stating that this was a problem, that I created the new system.
If you would like to work with me to have your concerns addressed, I would be delighted. If you want to be upset at someone, and avoid solving easily fixed problems just for the sake of allowing you to be angry,
Wow, I guess since the server owner is taking that tone I should also point out..
I discovered the account stealing / uplink exploit for you and reported it, instead of abusing it.. I brought a large group of guys from Redshift and poured tons of time into your server.. only to discover you donors showing up wherever they please at will and then being told.. yeah, Jango can go out to 999999^3 in a core in a half hour.. arguing with the admin about it briefly until deciding to move and voice my concerns through the only medium they'd be heard--so yeah, let me reiterate, you're offended!? HEY, WWHAT!? I made a forum post that still hasn't even been responded to on your official forums.. but multiple staff are trying to discount me here. ...yeah, I think ya'll are making my point and making me more wary of this server at that.
I need to add another comment to all this non-sense.
I was not angry, but now am.. as I have been accused of slander and venting anger simply for repeating what I was told by gravy's own staff after receiving no official forum response and getting into debate about it w/ said staff member on TeamSpeak--to then accuse me as you have is absolutely disgusting and an abuse of the power as well as this commentary medium for feedback and criticism of your server.
I am sorry you are upset, I did not intend to do so. I have not been in contact with Deadlis for some time (we are both busy, we are both knee deep in school work at this point); however I do not see how this relates to the main topic at hand.
In reference to your statement, "I discovered the account stealing / uplink exploit for you and reported it, instead of abusing it.. I brought a large group of guys from Redshift", I would like to say that your personal status does not dictate how I handle your concerns. I take everyone's opinions seriously and often debate the fairness of certain things on the server. I do not take anyone's opinions more seriously than another person's.
I would also like to say that if you have any concerns about the teleport ability, please bring them up. Currently the only one you have publicly addressed I have refuted, with not response from you. Please bring up more points because I would love to discuss this with you.
Gravy, whether or not the ability to go that far that fast was or is a bug simply stating so does not really refute it, especially when your donors simultaneously post on your forums (where you have still remained silent) talking about having a home-base that far and stating that I should stop "complaining" because the teleport command has a "PVP clause."
Here is the post I am referencing which would be leading any players reading something on your website to the opposite conclusion of your posturing here:
"Jango_Fett: if ur refering to my !tp command then i tped to 999999999^3 in my battleship and set up my base there
anyway if u read the rules u would see im not allowed to tp direct to pvp i have to tp 6 sectors away (then ill just jumpdrive the rest)
and im not allowed to tp out of pvp (but i can jumpdrive out then tp)
so plz stop complaing."
My point, Gravy, is I tried to bring up these concerns of my community members to an admin, which I already stated. Stonewalled and fed disturbing numbers and info about my inquiry, I took to your forums and found no response or activity except the same admin denying any teleport ability existed. At this point my group decided the best course of action was to leave Elwyn and I chose to post here about why.
You want me to make more points to debate? Okay. You still haven't responded to anything on your official forums, only here (motivation seemingly transparent). You handled my concerns with righteous indignation and accused me of being angry and slandering you and your server, then you continue to posture yourself in this manner looking for further debate to try and prove yourself and your server--if this is really how your community handles something like this, then all I can say is that I am glad we have moved on and that there is little left to say.
If you haven't figured it out, while my group had very real concerns about donor teleport functions it was your response that truly put us out; when I link my guys this page and the general reaction is, "Wow, I can't believe their staff met you with that kind of attitude, posturing or self-righteous indignation," that isn't a place I should take them back to. All that said, we did truly like Elwyn and have not yet found a better server in regard to openness and balance--but between the attitude, community (Jango) and potentially questionable features, again, there is little left to say; perhaps in the future if you look for feedback as opposed to a debate you'll retain more players like us.
While I agree from your comments that communication could have been better and admit that I have had no part in your debacle, your original post came across as rather caustic. As a general rule, people running a server such as Elwyn Eternity won't give any credence to posts claiming PAY TO WIN, spamming caps lock and making accusations.
It is unfortunate that you weren't able to discern that this teleport bug was in fact a bug, and it's also unfortunate that people such as Jengo Fett will gladly take advantage of these sort of bugs for both personal (in game) gain and to make others miserable. One of the best things (I found) about the rules on this server is that they can be interpreted by the staff to identify people who's sole purpose is to troll, to grief, and to genuinely ruin other players' gaming experiences and take action accordingly, even when they may not have broken any of the concrete rules such as no ramming or no building next to spawn.
That being said, these sort of loosely defined rules (Don't be a dick, for example) can also work against the overall player base, by allowing admins to misinterpret peoples actions and not take action when indeed they should have.
I am not going to say that this is the case here, but when you claim that you are simply looking for a conversation while using the opening statement "THIS SERVER IS PAY TO WIN and the staff denies it", you are undermining yourself and your argument in the eyes of both the server owner and his staff. They frequently work with players and each other to determine issues and come up with solutions, using their rules and guidelines as a basis.
I personally know Gravy, Deadlis, & Charger relatively well, and I can say in all honesty that they genuinely love this server, love this game and do everything that they can to ensure it is balanced, running well, and unique in every way. You claim that you "...did truly like Elwyn and have not yet found a better server in regard to openness and balance...", yet your statements in a very public forum that's purpose is the meaningful debate and advertisement of this server show that you feel quite contrary to these statements. I am not intending to attack you personally, nor am I attempting to find flaws in your character or anything of that vile sort. My goal here is to show that if you are trying to help and improve a server that you enjoy, getting frustrated and posting attacks is not the way to accomplish that. I understand where your frustration comes from, as I was in fact almost banned several times from EE because I argued with admins, broke the server (completely broke it on accident) and had numerous issues with the server, the rules implemented by the staff and certain game mechanics. But through talking to Gravy and Charger, working with them rather than against them, everything ended up better than before, even if it did take time.
Try to see them not as staff full of "righteous indignation", but as people with jobs, school, lives and objectives outside of this server. They do indeed host this server for others to enjoy, and it does cost them money. They are in no way your enemy here, regardless of how it may seem. And speaking from experience, checking the forums, monitoring in game activity, cleaning sectors of trash and phallic ships, checking these forums and reading the actual Star-Made forums is a bit overwhelming at times. So not receiving a response, while unfair, is something I have come to understand and at times expect. Public servers of this nature receive some of the most nasty people the internet has to offer, and the staff is responsible for keeping the server running as well as possible in spite of all that, and quite often potential bugs that are not attempts at trolling or deceiving the staff such as yours can fall through the cracks.
Best of luck Borst, and hopefully you will give EE another chance, both the server and their staff - who truly are terrific people when you get to know them. With one exception :-)
My issue with this server is that people are making alt's for the sole purpose of exploiting voting rewards. This is not fair and it adds false votes to the server.
Those of us who play fairly and only vote once a day go out and salvage stations, asteroids, planets and pirate remains to make our credits, while some people have as many as 6 alts that they use to get a ton of credits in a matter of minutes. Not to mention, when someone logs in later in the day and needs the vote rewards to get a boost for whatever they may be doing, the server then says "We have received enough votes for the day."
Now, if you have a large player base and a person logs in after most of them have voted, then oh well, its their fault for not logging in earlier but when you have players using alts to get stacks of undue credits, this also adds to the number of permitted votes a day that are allowed, which takes from the fair players who only vote once a day.
I suggest recording a players IP into a database and limiting their votes per day per IP. If a person has a static IP, then they get one vote. If they don't have a static IP, they would then have to restart their computer in order to get a new one which, for most people, can take up to 5 minutes for a complete restart. Which means that they would have to wait almost 30 minutes to get all of their votes in. This may discourage people from abusing this exploit.
I don't care how you fix it but I insist that you do. I could name names of people who do this right now but to avoid a flame war, I'll withhold them... For now...
I quite frankly don't know how to respond since I cannot confirm any of what you have said. I will systematically disassemble your statement to better respond to the problems you face.
1. "alt's for the sole purpose of exploiting voting rewards" and "some people have as many as 6 alts".
I don't see how this is at all possible. The server list, starmade-servers.com, already prevents multiple votes from the same IP. The site rules only permit you one vote per IP.
2. "when someone logs in later in the day and needs the vote rewards to get a boost for whatever they may be doing, the server then says "We have received enough votes for the day.""
I would like to mention that I vote, almost, every day at 12pm EST. Is that late enough to be considered "later in the day"? Our server does not hit the vote limit cap most of the time. You can learn more at the statistics page: http://starmade-servers.com/server/103/stats/
3. "I could name names of people who do this right now but to avoid a flame war"
Please name names. I don't have any idea of who could do this or how they would. "recording a players IP" is done by Starmade-Servers.com, not me. All of the stats tracking and vote validation is done by Starmade-Servers.com, not me.
That's odd... I wonder how they've managed to work around it then. lvl121 was watching with me as the player named Yarius logged in and then several different alts logged in systematically afterwards to send money to his account. Alts with names such as Yaz and Yazz (see why I am sure that they are alt's?) There were about 6 different ones that would log in one after the other, send Yarius money and then log out. Rinse and repeat.
On a side note, I hope that my previous comment did not cause offense, none was intended. I simply sought to make the complaint as professional as possible.
I hope that I have offered enough information.
I also understand that much of the voting service is controlled by the website controllers. However, I am unsure at the moment as to how to contact them regarding this issue, since this website appears to have no "Contact Us" button displayed.
Thank you for your time.
NEW BOUNTY SYSTEM -
So after I heard your ideas about the bounty system being implemented I figured I would share some of my ideas.
First of all, judging by the information given it seemed that players were able to add a bounty to another player, one thing I would recommend is to split the bounty into stages based on how much bounty is placed on the player -
Low amount of bounty on a player - Maybes you could add a different colored marker on the player meaning he has a bounty.
Medium amount of bounty on a player - The same color marker as used in a case of a player with a low bounty however maybes there could also be a buff to the distance you have to be to get the player on your navigation menu, let's just say about 10,000 meters or so.
High amount of bounty on a player - Maybes another different colored marker, let's say if the low bounty was orange the high bounty player would have a marker of purple (just an example), on the navigation maybes about 50,000 could be the maximum range in which you an detect a high bounty player, however this would have to be a high bounty to make this fair.
Now, moving on, I realized you said something about if a bounty is on a player, the player who kills him will get the bounty on their head, please correct me if I'm wrong.
To be fair, I don't agree with this, if someone has a bounty they should have a reason to have that bounty, thus meaning they probably deserve to be hunted, so switching their bounty to the player brave enough (or stupid enough) to hunt them down is just wrong, to change this, I think that you could maybes give the killer credits based on how much bounty was on the player he killed, recapping what I wrote above, a high bounty player would probably need to be killed, also rewarding in lot's of goodies for his killer :>
I hate to sound like a fanboy, but... Elwyn Eternity really is the single greatest Starmade server created to date. All the little kiddies who say otherwise are butthurt from their well-deserved bans. It's got awesome configs, such as 10km sectors, a 300kmph speed limit, 4km reach on most weapons, lightly buffed thrusters to account for sector size and disabled ion defensive buff(cause it's broken). It has an astonishingly good community for a PVP server and active, mature staff who know what they're doing. I'm sincerely proud to be a veteran member of this community(no, I'm not staff posting an advert)
I to along with the entire faction Requiem of Eisenwald agree with the above statements concerning the Elwyn server and community.
This is a great server with active admins who are always on TS3 and multiple factions a good number who reside on TS3 as well.
The server is always up and scheduled restarts keep it lag free and problem free.
Ok so, if you are planning to play on this server dont. Trust me, the admins on this server are children. Me and the faction (a group of friends i play with DAILY ON THIS SERVER) got banned for using the mechanics better than them. We were killing a person when he complained so the admins came and said our ships were LEGIT. about an hour later we find the admin base and kill it but they used GODMODE (totally legit right?). and then complain to us that we do too much damage and have better shields them them (like wtf child get over it, we're better than you). so we state facts of the game that we used certain blocks that the shop PROVIDES US ( they can change that too). There was no rule against using these blocks so as we state the fact, the instantly say "considered this rule active now" and ban us. So to sum this up they banned us do to their lack of knowledge and skill in the game so they ban us because we are better than them.
You were purposefully abusing a glitch in the shield mechanics in which damage would overcharge your shields, which in itself we don't ban for. What we do ban for is players throwing a tantrum when they aren't allowed to be nearly invulnerable thanks to a currently glitched mechanic, and talking back to admins. We are here to keep the server running smoothly and to keep everything fair for everyone.
Behavior like that against the community is not welcome on the server.
Lol no you banned us because we killed players and then attack you in which you had god mode on. you were using a mechanic that's not giving to normal players. The "glitch" we were using isnt illegal or not allowed, if you actually read ANY starmade forums forums you would know it's suppose to be apart of the game and all you had to do was use ENERGY DRAINING BEAMS, kinda self explanatory, it'll kill us easily. we talked back because u were gonna "ban cubes" -_- how the fuck can u ban cubes on a game made of cubes, oh wait I KNOW! because our ships were just giant cubes capable of taking out shields within seconds so you got mad and banned us.
We did not ban you because you killed players. As admins, we investigated, using godmode, a mechanic to protect admins while they administrate and moderate.
We weren't going to "ban cubes". We asked you to turn down the currently abusable mechanic, which caused you lot to have a tantrum.
All of you refused to acknowledge, or even discuss, that abuse such as that can possibly impact a community, while being immature and extremely insulting to everyone regarding the matter. THIS is why you were banned. No respectable server would tolerate that sort of behavior.
1) I cannot register on the server forums because there is no box for a security question. I've tried using chrome and IE to register but It is impossible as it is.
2) Isn't it about time for a universe reset? With the 0.14 update and so many changes it would seem appropriate.
Poking is one thing. Poking 15-30 times in about 10 seconds.. That's not ok. Doesn't take a lot of brains to figure out what the result of doing that would be. Especially given your history of stirring up trouble with the admins for the sake of a reaction.
TL;DR - You knew better, and you did that for a reaction, which you got.
DO NOT DONATE to this server the admins will just take your money and then kill you or troll you its really not worth the time or money to play on this server. They also have a bunch of lag issues and the server will crash so often its frustrating and when it crashes it will boot you out of your ship, which is not so bad except it does it where you start to lag so you end up thousands of meters away from your ship. Trust me find another server this one is terrible.
This is a great server, nice community I love it! My only problem (2 problems)are the banner and the website. You pretty much don't have a banner, and the website... well, it looks kinda crap. I have no knowledge about banners, but I would love to help with the website. I wonder if it's HTML though.
Great server, lots of players normally, plenty of factions, and runs well. Only downtime I've seen was a few days ago as a result of a ddos attack on the host. Other than that, it's been strong. They've also got custom pirates, which are fun. They get tougher the further out from spawn you go. Get in here!
Thanks that great, however, the server has decided to crash everyone off the server multiple times. Rejoining results in ping between 1000 and 100000. Not sure what this is happening, but you have several ghosted players and the server has rendered the game unplayable.
